Paying Down Debt - What An Amazing Feeling
Aug 27th, 2008 by Jennifer Lynn
Today I threw another $1,000 toward my debt and it feels incredible!
Last year I would never have imagined making as much headway on my bills as I have this summer, and it’s been extremely encouraging. The challenging part is sacrificing in order to stash away as much of my paycheck as possible, instead of splurging on tempting little extras for myself. But it’s truly worth it every time I see the balance of my debt shrinking before my eyes.
Whenever I feel discouraged, it helps to remind myself how I didn’t get in this much trouble overnight and thus it’ll take time to claw my way back out of the black debt hole again.
If I remain focused and stay motivated for another few months, the bulk of this debt will be gone by next year. I can hardly believe it! That means all my student loans plus my 2007 Dodge Caliber will be paid off in less than three years. It will be sooo nice not to repeatedly have to make one monotonous payment after another every month, and what a relief when my money will finally be mine again.
I can’t wait to be debt-free!!
=^..^=

Congrats Jennifer! You’re doing wonderful and I can’t wait to see your post when you’re debt free.
Wow! $1k is a huge amount of money and will kick your debt repayment in overdrive. Great job. Did you cut expenses or earn the extra $1,000?
Wow that is awesome! Being closer to being debt free must be a great feeling. I look over mine and i’m like Meh.. gotta make more cash lol
Congrats though for pushing hard and getting out of debt sooner!
congrats! I’m halfway done with my debt! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
You’re making amazing headway and seeing that debt shrink can be a great motivator to keep up the great work. The debt didn’t appear overnight and it won’t vanish overnight either but knowing that the sacrifices that you’re making are paying off is a very rewarding feeling.
Thank you everyone for the support! Your comments mean so much.
The burden of debt can feel excruciatingly suffocating, and it’s holding me back from so much I want to do right now. But I’m determined to knock it out in its entirety as soon as possible.
Laura, I’m all ready thinking of silly little ways to celebrate when I’m finally debt-free for good!
Scott, I received some extended hours at work over the summer and basically dedicated myself to funneling all that extra money into paying off my debt. The minimum required payments each month are only about $200, but I’d really like to keep up the momentum of chipping away at it as much as possible.
Tyler, I’m considering ways to increase my earning potential as well. For some reason my gut keeps telling me the answer is right in front of my face ready to smack me, and now it’s a matter of brainstorming hardcore and figuring out how to do it.
Motorokr, congrats to you too! Halfway there is simply awesome. And seeing light at the end of the nefarious debt tunnel is so inspiring to keep pushing forward even harder.
Matt, it helps so much whenever I’m discouraged to remind myself how far I’ve come since last year. Unfortunately in life, every gain requires some type of sacrifice and as long as I can keep the goal clearly in view, each baby step is a positive nudge in the right direction.
Great job! Keep up the good work!!!
